A Twisted Building In New York’s Meatpacking District
Morris Adjmi Architects have designed 837 Washington, a commercial building located in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan.
The architect’s description
Situated across the street from the High Line in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, this new commercial office building sits atop an original two-story Art Modern-style industrial depot that has been restored, preserved, and given the cantilevered metal canopy that is signature to the neighborhood.
The new tower is a twisted, steel exoskeleton with a curtain wall of tall, mullioned windows. The design echoes the post-industrial garden of the High Line, incorporating planted beds that nest within the voids created by the torqued edges of each floor slab.
