Georgia Harper Landscape Design have designed ‘Ohana’, a garden design that was part of the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in Australia.

Inspired by the Hawaiian word Ohana, meaning ‘Family’, this garden sets out to portray a relaxing family space, specifically geared to the family with teenage kids.

Constructed by The Garden Company & The Pool Company, the garden makes use of a slope to define the various areas, like the lounge area, and the dining area.

On the dining level, there’s a 9ft custom timber surfboard that was specially mounted to act as dinner table, with comfy cushioned ottomans to match. A polished terrazzo bar is on hand to keep the drinks cool, and towering over the bar is a perforated steel canopy, representing a wave that’s ready to surf.

Below the dining level is the lounge with fully upholstered warp-around seating, and a folded steel fire table.

The main feature of the garden is ‘Leilani’, a hand-cut glass mosaic version of a classic Hawaiian surfer girls from the 1960s, that’s located at one end of the pool. The mosaic, created by Swimple, has waves that have been recreated in glass and mother of pearl, to capture the waves’ movement, and at 4.6m tall she sets the tone for the whole garden.
