The ‘Ohana’ Garden Creates A Rela Family Space With A Lounge, Dining Area, And A Pool
have designed ‘Ohana’, a garden design that was part of the in Australia.
Inspired by the Hawaiian word Ohana, meaning ‘Family’, this garden sets out to portray a rela family space, specifically geared to the family with teenage kids.
Constructed by , the garden makes use of a slope to define the various areas, like the lounge area, and the dining area.
On the dining level, there’s a 9ft custom timber surfboard that was specially mounted to act as dinner table, with comfy cushioned ottomans to match. A polished terrazzo bar is on hand to keep the drinks cool, and towering over the bar is a perforated steel canopy, representing a wave that’s ready to surf.
Below the dining level is the lounge with fully upholstered warp-around seating, and a folded steel fire table.
The main feature of the garden is ‘Leilani’, a hand-cut glass mosaic version of a classic Hawaiian surfer girls from the 1960s, that’s located at one end of the pool. The mosaic, created by , has waves that have been recreated in glass and mother of pearl, to capture the waves’ movement, and at 4.6m tall she sets the tone for the whole garden.
